Delhi Assembly Elections: AAP's First Candidate List

AAP released the first list of candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections on Nov. 21. In that list, the party had dropped three sitting MLAs and fielded six leaders who switched over from the BJP and the Congress lately.

Delhi AAP convener Gopal Rai had said at the time that the list was released early because eight of the 11 constituencies are not held by the party. Six of these eight constituencies were won by the BJP in the last elections.

In its first list, AAP fielded Brahm Singh Tanwar from Chhatarpur, Anil Jha from Kirari and BB Tyagi from Laxmi Nagar. All of them had recently quit the BJP and joined AAP.

Former Congress leader Choudhary Zubair Ahmed was fielded from Seelampur, while former MLAs Veer Singh Dhingan and Somesh Shokeen will contest from Seemapuri and Matiala, respectively. Ahmed, Dhingan and Shokeen all switched from Congress to join the Aam Aadmi Party.

Rituraj Jha from Kirari, Gulab Singh Yadav from Matiala and Abdul Rahman from Seelampur were among the sitting AAP MLAs who were denied tickets for the upcoming assembly polls in the national capital.
