Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday praised Zomato Ltd.'s founder Deepinder Goyal and called his journey "inspiring". Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi reposted a video of the Zomato CEO where he revealed what his father said when he told him about his startup idea.
At the 'Vishesh Sampark Abhiyan' event on Monday hosted by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Deepinder Goyal also thanked the government for bringing about the change in the Indian startup ecosystem.
"In today’s India, one’s surname doesn’t matter. What matters is hard work. Your journey is truly inspiring, @deepigoyal! It motivates countless youngsters to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams," the prime minister said.
"We are committed to providing the right environment for the startups to flourish," he added.
Responding to PM Modi's "kind words", Goyal wrote, "This does certainly motivate us to work harder, and do better."
The video of Goyal's speech struck a chord on social media. Goyal said when he shared the start-up idea with his father, the reaction he got was: "Jaanta hain tera baap kaun hai." He explained that they come from a humble background in a small village of Punjab.
The event brought together leading IT professionals, innovators, startup leaders, and intellectuals to discuss the country's digital transformation and future potential under the leadership of PM Modi.
