HDFC Bank plans to implement a few major changes to its credit card rewards programme and charges on various payments from next month. The new changes on fees pertaining to various transactions using HDFC credit cards will come into effect from July 1.
Besides its reward point accrual for insurance transactions being limited by card type, new charges will be imposed for online gaming (like Dream11, MPL), rent payments and wallet loading. The HDFC Bank credit card reward point policies will also be updated and certain high-value transactions will incur a 1% fee. This fee, which has a monthly ceiling of Rs 4,999, will be determined by the total transaction amount.
“These updates ensure that we continue offering the best financial solutions while keeping transactions transparent and safe,” the official statement from the largest private lender read.
Therefore, it is important for all HDFC Bank credit card users to check the new charges in order to avoid unnecessary fees.
Online Skill-Based Gaming Transactions
A 1% fee will be applied to your monthly total if you spend more than Rs 10,000 on skilled online gaming platforms such as Rummy Culture, Dream11, Junglee Games, MPL, or similar websites, using any HDFC credit card. The charges will be capped at Rs 4,999 per month. No reward points will be earned on any such transactions.
Wallet Loading Transactions
You will be levied a 1% fee on the entire amount for loading any digital wallet using HDFC Bank credit. The fee will be levied if the total transaction exceeds Rs 10,000 for loading third-party digital wallets across Mobikwik, PayTM, Freecharge, or Ola Money in a month. The charges will be applicable to the total transaction amount for the month. The total fees are capped at Rs 4,999.
Insurance Transactions
Insurance premium transactions using HDFC credit cards will continue to earn rewards, but the spending amount has been capped at Rs 10,000 per month for HDFC Bank Infinia and Infinia Metal credit cards. Similarly, the transactions using Diners Black, Diners Black Metal, and Biz Black Metal cards have been capped at Rs 5,000 per month for reward points on insurance payments. For all other cards, the amount has been capped at Rs 2,000 per month for reward points.
Charges Upper Cap Revision
The current 1% transaction fee will be applicable to all rent payments, and the maximum fee per transaction for the rent, fuel and education categories has been set at Rs 4,999. Fuel purchases will only incur the charges if the overall amount exceeds Rs 30,000 or Rs 15,000 per transaction, depending on the specific card categories.
Only payments made through third-party apps will be subject to the 1% fee when it comes to payment of education bills. However, if you pay directly through the websites or point-of-sale (POS) devices of the college or school, there will be no extra fees.
Utility Transactions
A 1% fee will be levied on utility bill payments if monthly spending exceeds Rs 75,000 for HDFC business cards and Rs 50,000 for HDFC consumer cards. The total fees have been capped at Rs 4,999. The fees will be levied on the overall utility bill payments in a month.
