Grand Theft Auto VI, the heavily anticipated sixth major installment in the multi-billion dollar Grand Theft Auto video game franchise, may have a personal computer release after its console launch, according to its publisher.
Fans may have to wait some time after the game's console release, in order to play the game on PC, as evidenced by the list of platforms it was playable on. Its game developer, Rockstar, had put out a list, which notably did not mention PC.
The game is currently scheduled for a fall 2025 release on Play Station 5 and Xbox Series X and S gaming consoles.
Strauss Zelnick, the chief executive officer of parent company Take Two Interactive, hinted at the game's PC release in an interview with IGN.
"With regard to others in our lineup, we don't always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then moved to other platforms,” Zelnick told IGN when asked about the game's PC release.
This has been the case with previous major releases as GTA 5, first released on consoles in September 2013, with its PC release making its debut two years later on April 2015.
Zellnick also noted the importance of a PC release for the game, saying that 40% of sales of a video game available on multpile platforms in many cases, comes from the purchases of its PC version.
The GTA series also has an active modding scene with many modders releasing patches to fix bugs and restore cut features. But the community has also had a contentious relationship with Take-Two.
With the most recent example being the company taking down a full-conversion mod for GTA 4 that turned it into a fully playable version of their seminal classic GTA: Vice City, which takes place in the same city as GTA 6.
Initially, the mod required a purchased version of GTA 4 in order to run, but was made freely available when the modders alleged that the parent company took legal action against them and had it taken down.
