India's top automakers, from Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai to Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors, are reporting their auto sales in April 2025. Here's a look at who sold how much in the month gone by.

Ashok Leyland Sales Down 6% In April 2025

Total sales of Ashok Leyland Ltd. declined in April 2025 on account of muted volumes in the commercial-vehicle space.

The Chennai-based automaker shipped in India and abroad a total of 7,960 trucks and buses last month, as against 9,123 units in the year-ago period, according to an exchange filing on Friday. Shipments of light commercial vehicles rose 6% year-on-year to 5,461 units last month.

Bajaj Auto Sales Dip 6% In April 2025 Weak India Volumes 

Total sales of Bajaj Auto Ltd. fell in April 2025 over the year earlier due to muted demand in the world's largest two-wheeler market.

The Chakan, Pune-based automaker shipped a total of 3,65,810 vehicles last month, as against 3,88,256 units in the year-ago period, registering a decline of 6% year-on-year, according to an exchange filing on Friday.

  • Domestic two-wheeler sales down 13% YoY at 1,88,615 units

  • Two-wheeler exports up 4% YoY at 1,29,322 units

  • Total two-wheeler sales down 7% YoY at 3,17,937 units

The company's three-wheeler business in India and abroad grew 3% year-on-year to 47,873 units.

Planned Factory Shutdowns Impact Hero's April Sales

Monthly wholesales of Hero MotoCorp Ltd. were muted in April 2025 due to a planned shutdown of four of its manufacturing plants in India.

India's largest two-wheeler dispatched to dealerships 3,05,406 units last month, as against 5,33,585 units in the year-ago period. The numbers aren't comparable since Hero shut four of its plants from April 17-19 for scheduled maintenance and supply chain alignment.

Production at the four plants---Dharuhera, Gurugram, Haridwar, and Neemrana---is expected to stabilise in May, the company said in an exchange filing on Friday.

Mahindra Tractor Sales Up 8% In April 2025

Total tractor sales of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. rose 8% year-on-year to 40,054 units in April 2025, as against 37,039 units in the year-ago period, according to an exchange filing on Thursday.

  • Domestic tractor sales up 8% YoY at 38,516 units

  • Tractor exports up 25% YoY at 1,538 units

Bolstered by the Chaitra Navratri festival in the first week of April, retail momentum is very strong," Hemant Sikka, president - farm equipment sector at M&M, said in the statement. "This is well supported by good crop prices and high procurement at mandis, leading to good cash flows with farmers."

"IMD's prediction of above normal southwest monsoon is hugely positive for the overall agri economy and tractor industry. Financing continues to remain strong."

Mahindra SUV Sales Grow 28% In April 2025

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has yet again emerged as India's No.2 carmaker after its SUV sales grew by nearly a third in April 2025.

Sales of the Scorpio maker rose 28% year-on-year to 52,330 units last month, as against 41,008 units in the year-ago period, according to an exchange filing on Thursday.

The LCV sales rose marginally to 22,989 units across three categories, as against 22,102 units in the year-ago period. The three-wheeler sales were equally muted with a 1% decline to 5,470 units.

JSW MG Motor India Sales Up 23% In April 2025

Sales of JSW MG Motor India Pvt. Ltd. rose 23% year-on-year to 5,829 units in April 2025, as against 4,725 units in the year-ago period, according to a company statement on Thursday.

Maruti Suzuki Sales Rise 7% In April 2025 Due To Exports

Exports saved the blushes for Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. in April 2025.

Total sales of India's largest carmaker rose 6.96% year-on-year to 1,79,791 units last month, as against 1,68,089 units in the year-ago period, according to an exchange filing on Thursday.

Key highlights:

  • Total domestic car sales up 0.5% YoY at 1,38,704 units

  • Sales to other OEMs (Toyota India) up 79.9% YoY at 9,827 units

  • Total India sales up 4.07% YoY at 1,51,880 units

  • Exports up 26% YoY at 27,911 units

TVS Motor Sales Surge 16% In April 2025 On EV Sales

Total sales of TVS Motor Co. Ltd. rose as much as 16% last month on the back of demand for its best-selling electric scooters.

Total two-wheeler sales rose 15% year-on-year to 4,30,330 units in April 2025, wherein the India grew by 7% to 3,23,647 units while the exports rose by 46% to 1,06,683 units, according to an exchange filing.

The EV business grew 59% to 27,684 units last month. At the same time, the three-wheeler business grew 50% to 13,566 units.

Total exports, two-wheelers and three-wheelers, increased by 45% year-on-year to 1,16,880 units last month.

Tata Motors Total Sales Down 6.1% In April 2025

Total sales of Tata Motors Ltd. fell in April 2025 due to lacklustre demand for both passenger and commercial vehicles.

CV sales of India's largest truckmaker fell 8% year-on-year to 27,221 units last month, as against 29,538 units in the year-ago period. PV sales of the Nexon maker fell 5% year-on-year to 45,532 units. The EV business shrunk by 16% to 5,318 units.

In total, Tata Motors shipped 72,753 units last month, as against 77,521 units in April 2024, registering a decline of 6.1% year-on-year.

Eicher Motors' VECV Sees Healthy Growth In April Sales

Total sales of Eicher Motors Ltd.'s commercial-vehicle unit rose by more than a fourth in April 2025.

VECV shipped a total of 6,846 units last month, as against 5,377 units in the year-ago period, registering a growth of 27.3% year-on-year. That included 6,257 units sold locally (+27.7%), exports of 460 units (+29.2%), and Volvo sales of 129 units (+4.9%).

Hyundai India Sales Down 4.6% In April 2025

Total sales of Hyundai Motor India Ltd. fell in April 2025 despite surge in exports, according to an exchange filing on Thursday.

The Creta maker sold 44,374 units in India last month, as against 50,201 units in the year-ago period, registering a decline of 11.60% year-on-year. Exports rose 21.5% year-on-year 16,400 units units.

In total, Hyundai India shipped 60,774 units in April, as against 63,701 units in the year-ago period, registering a decline of 4.64% year-on-year.

"While the domestic market continues to face headwinds on account of various macroeconomic factors, we continue to champion 'Make in India, Made for the World' emphasizing HMIL’s strong focus on exports," Chief Operating Officer Tarun Garg said in the statement.

"Overall, we remain dedicated to enhancing value for our customers as we gear up to commence operations at our new plant at Talegaon in Q4 of this calendar year."

Escorts Kubota Sales Dip 1.2% In April 2025

Total sales of Escorts Kubota Ltd. fell 1.2% year-on-year to 8,729 units in April 2025, as against 8,839 units in the year-ago period.

The decline in the tractor maker's domestic sales was sharper--down 4.1% year-on-year to 8,148 units--even as exports surged 67.4% to 581 units, according to an exchange filing on Thursday.

"Looking ahead, with favourable macroeconomic conditions--successful rabi harvest, higher crop prices, and sufficient water levels in reservoirs---we anticipate an increase in demand momentum going forward across different regions," the company said in the filing.
