Indian equity benchmarks opened lower, tracking negative global cues on renewed tensions between US and Iran. The NSE Nifty fell as much as 0.69% to 24,158, while the BSE Sensex declined up to 553 points, or 0.7%, to 77,921 in early trade.
Meanwhile, Asian markets traded lower after the US and Iran exchanged fire in the Strait of Hormuz. Australia's ASX 200, Hong Kong's Hang Seng, South Korea's Kospi, Japan's Nikkei 225 and Shanghai Composite declined between 0.17% and 1.55%. In the oil market, Brent crude futures for July delivery rose 2.26% to $102.32 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate futures for June delivery gained 2.06% to $96.76 per barrel.
The US and Iran exchanged fire in the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides saying the other initiated the attack. US President Donald Trump said the ceasefire remained in effect after the exchange. Trump said Iran would face further attacks if it does not agree to a nuclear deal.
Stock Market Live: Nifty 50 Options Data Shows 24,500 As Key Resistance For Weekly Expiry
- Nifty 50 options data showed the highest Call open interest concentration at the 24,500 strike for the weekly expiry, indicating traders expect resistance near that level.
- Fresh Call writing was also highest around 24,500, while Put writers remained active at 24,200 and 24,100 strikes.
- The options chain suggested traders continue to expect a broad 24,200-24,500 trading range in the near term.
Stock Market Live: Nifty 50 Open Interest Rises Over 111% Since Last Expiry
- Open interest data since the last expiry showed Nifty 50 total open interest rising 111.39%, led by sharp additions in both call and put contracts.
- Call open interest rose 121.10%, while put open interest climbed 110.34%, signalling elevated derivatives positioning ahead of the weekly expiry.
- Nifty Mid Select and Nifty Fin Service indices also recorded strong growth in open interest during the period.

Stock Market Live: Fairfax Launches Open Offer For Up To 26% Stake In IIFL Capital
- Fairfax India’s unit, FIH Mauritius Investments, launched an open offer to acquire up to 26% stake in IIFL Capital Services at Rs 350 per share.
- The offer covers up to 10 crore shares and could involve a consideration of up to Rs 3,505 crore if fully accepted, according to an exchange filing.
- This follows a Rs 2,000 crore preferential investment announced earlier and could take Fairfax’s total outlay in IIFL Capital to Rs 5,505 crore.

Stock Market Live: Trai Proposes Fines For Improper Handling Of Customer Complaints
- Telecom regulator Trai proposed fines of up to Rs 50 lakh per quarter on telecom operators for violations in handling customer complaints.
- The draft regulation proposes a penalty of Rs 1,000 for each improperly dismissed complaint and Rs 5,000 for each improperly disposed appeal, subject to a quarterly cap.
- Trai also proposed mandatory complaint registration through operators’ websites, apps and chatbots, with updates to consumers on action taken.
