Guinness World Records organisation has recognised a Brazilian couple, Paulo Gabriel da Silva Barros and Katyucia Lie Hoshino, as the world's shortest married couple.
According to the Guinness website, the couple has a combined height of 181.41 cm (71.42 inches), which was verified in Itapeva, São Paulo, Brazil on November 3, 2016.
The Guinness World Records organisation took to Instagram to post an update about Barros and Hoshino being the shortest married couple.
"Paulo Gabriel da Silva Barros (Brazil) and Katyucia Lie Hoshino are the shortest married couple!. At a combined height of just 181.41 cm (71.42 in)! Paulo (aged 31 and 90.28 cm (35.54 in) in height), and Katyucia (28 and 91.13 cm (35.88 in), first met in 2006!"
"We may be short but we have big hearts and lots of love for each other as well as everybody in our lives. Our life isn't without its challenges but we are so happy we can tackle these challenges together," the social media post quoted the couple as saying.
Barros and Hoshino got married on September 17, 2016. They had first met through a social media platform named 'Orkut' in 2006. "I found her very beautiful from the first moment I saw her," Barros said to the organisation.
Hoshino reportedly did not reciprocate the feeling and, hence, blocked him on the instant messaging site. However, Barros did not give up. They chatted regularly for a few years, and he finally won her over. They met in person for the first time in December 2008 and began dating soon after.
They had a long-distance relationship but managed to meet every few months. In 2012, Hoshino left her hometown to move to Itapeva, São Paulo, Brazil.
"We are so happy to be a part of Guinness World Records Day and to have our unique record celebrated. We hope our new record will encourage the world to look past the physical differences in others and understand all people should be treated equally," said Katyucia Lie Hoshino.
