PIB Fact Check: Is June 6 A National Holiday?

PIB Fact Check has finally clarified that the most viral question on internet that whether June 6 is a national holiday true or not. PIB Fact Check on Thursday has clarified that June 6 is NOT a national holiday.

"Is Friday, June 6, 2025, a national public holiday? Several news reports and social media posts claim that the central government has declared Friday (June 06, 2025) as a national public holiday," PIB Fact Check shared on its X profile.

"This claim is fake. The government of India has not made any such announcement," it added.

Is Friday, June 6, a national holiday? The internet is abuzz with multiple reports claiming that the central government has declared a national holiday tomorrow, with some of them claiming that banks and even schools will remain closed across states. This has left many confused, especially in the wake of Eid al-Adha, also known as Bakrid. 

Eid-ul-Adha, one of the major festivals celebrated by Muslims worldwide, is marked on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah.

As per the official bank holidays calendar of the Reserve Bank of India, both public and private sector banks will remain closed on Friday in cities like Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi in Kerala on account of Id-ul-Ad’ha (Bakrid).

Meanwhile, Bakri ID (Id-Uz-Zuha) will be celebrated in India on Saturday, June 7. Despite being the first Saturday of June, banks will remain shut in all cities across the country, except in Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Itanagar, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.
