The India Meteorological Department on Monday issued an orange alert for 13 states for the next few days. The alert has been issued in anticipation of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds reaching speeds of70 km/h at isolated locations.
According to the IMD’s forecast released on May 5, rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds is likely to continue over Northwest India for the next seven days and over Central India until May 7, with a decrease in intensity thereafter.
Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over Gujarat and southwest Rajasthan during May 5–8 and over Uttarakhand during May 6–7.
The IMD has also forecast heavy rainfall over Northeast India from Tuesday to Thursday, isolated hailstorms over Telangana, and very heavy rainfall over parts of the Gujarat region on Tuesday. Isolated hailstorms are also likely in parts of Northwest India until Tuesday. Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Rajasthan until Wednesday and in Uttarakhand from Tuesday to Wednesday.
According to the latest bulletin issued on May 5 at 8:30 am, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds with speeds of10 km/h prevailed at some places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, West Madhya Pradesh, West Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Winds with speeds of70 km/h were observed at isolated places over Northeast India; Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad; Himachal Pradesh; Punjab; Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi; Vidarbha; Chhattisgarh; Bihar; Jharkhand; the Gujarat region; Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal; Kerala & Mahe; Rayalaseema; and Telangana.
Hailstorms occurred at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and the Gujarat region.
Heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Himachal Pradesh, and West Madhya Pradesh.
