From India To Israel, Here's How Yoga Day 2024 Was Celebrated Across The World

International Yoga Day on Friday was celebrated with enthusiasm across the world. The United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga by a resolution in December 2014. The day aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practising yoga.

Prime Minister Celebrates International Yoga Day 2024

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to lead the celebrations on the banks of the Dal Lake, but the event had to be shifted indoors due to incessant rain.

Addressing a gathering at the 10th International Yoga Day event at the SKICC in Srinagar, the PM said yoga has helped people realise that their welfare is linked to the welfare of the world around them. "The world is looking at yoga as a powerful agent of global good. Yoga helps us live in the present moment without the baggage of the past," he said.

India Observes International Yoga Day 2024

President Droupadi Murmu along with other officials of the President's Secretariat performed yoga at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah performed yoga at an event held at a public garden on Sindhu Bhavan Road in Ahmedabad with other participants.

Assam joined the nation in celebrating International Yoga Day with several events organised across the state on the occasion. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, among others, participated in yoga events held in various parts of the northeastern state since morning.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and civic commissioner Bhushan Gagrani attended a Yoga Day event, organised by BJP leader Shaina NC in Mumbai.

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath performed different asanas as they led the International Day of Yoga celebrations in the state. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya participated in a yoga event in Prayagraj. Yoga Day events were organised at several places across Lucknow by various organisations and saw participation from people of all ages.

Despite the rains, scores of people, especially students, participated in the Yoga Day celebrations across Himachal Pradesh. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla performed yoga at the historic Ridge Ground, while leader of the opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, and state BJP chief Rajiv Bindal performed yoga in Una and Solan. Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil, the senior-most member of the Himachal cabinet, performed yoga asanas in Solan.

World Observes International Yoga Day 2024

Over 300 people from across Israel rolled out yoga mats and performed asanas as they participated in International Yoga Day celebrations at the Peres Centre for Peace and Innovation in Tel Aviv. The event was organised by the Embassy of India in Israel in association with the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality and the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Israel. First Lady Michal Herzog was the chief guest. At the event, Herzog spoke about the deep friendship between India and Israel.

Thousands of Yoga enthusiasts and practitioners assembled at the iconic Times Square in New York for day-long sessions of the ancient Indian practice on the eve of commemorating the International Day of Yoga.
