Delhi Resident Shocked By Electricity Bill Of Over Rs 30,000 After Upgrading AC Units

A Delhi man was left in disbelief after receiving a massive electricity bill of Rs 30,280 from BSES Rajdhani for the month of June. He shared his experience on Reddit two days ago, sparking astonishment and sympathy among fellow residents.

"Pain. How is this even possible," the resident wrote, along with a screenshot of the BSES Rajdhani message that the deadline to make payment was July 9.

The Reddit user recently upgraded his 16-year-old air conditioning units to new five-star-rated ones, hoping to see a reduction in his electricity outgoing. Unfortunately, his hopes were dashed when the new units did not provide the expected savings.

"Bought new ACs thinking it’ll save money. It did not, in fact, save money. Four ACs, out of which at least two are running at a time," he captioned.

His post quickly went viral, with many users commenting that with four AC units, the bill is not that surprising.

"You're using 4 ACs, out of which at a time two ACs are running. We don't know whether they're 5 star or not, so let's say you're using two 2-star ACs at a time, that's a normal bill. Apart from ACs, you're also using other appliances or machines."

"Electric bills in month of June have shot up like crazy everywhere in NCR, man. I have 2 ACs and they were not even being used that much more compared to May or July, and yet the electric bill for May was 7k while June was 20k."

The surge in electricity bills is not new in the national capital region. Earlier this month, Jasveer Singh, co-founder of the Join Hood App, reported receiving a bill of Rs 45,000 for a single month, creating a buzz on social media.
