OpenAI's ChatGPT is currently down for thousands of users worldwide. According to outage tracking website Downdetector, the issue began around 5 p.m., with users reporting they are not being able to access the chatbot.
Affected users attempting to access ChatGPT via its website are encountering a "Bad gateway" error, preventing them from logging in.
Downdetector had 4,396 user reports at 5:19 pm.
"We are currently investigating this issue," reads a message on OpenAI's status page. The company said that it is working on a fix for the issue.

Down Detector, which is a platform for users to report server outages across websites and applications, shows a massive spike in problems reported for ChatGPT.
ChatGPT was operational around 7 p.m. before becoming unavailable to users again.
The latest note on OpenAI's status page read, "We are currently experiencing elevated error rates for ChatGPT. We are investigating this issue. We have identified the root cause and are working to implement a fix."
