Sam Altman's ChatGPT users faced disruptions on Wednesday evening, with users unable to generate responses reported across the world. The company has also updated its official status page, confirming the issues with the chatbot.
According to Down Detector, a website that tracks online service disruptions, over 1,500 complaints were logged regarding ChatGPT's performance around 7:30 pm in the US on Wednesday. While ChatGPT reported over 200 complaints in India around the same time. The disruption peaked around 9:00 p.m. in the US, with over 2,000 complaints registered.
According to the official status page, the company is currently investigating degraded performance and increased error rates.
This comes after ChatGPT experienced a similar outage on Tuesday evening, a few days after the popular chatbot introduced its Ghibli image generation features.
The outage triggered a flood of reactions on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where #ChatGPT quickly became a trending topic.
"Stackoverflow and chatgpt are both down. Zero software is being written in the entire US currently," wrote a user on X.
"Everyone running to twitter to check if chatgpt is down for anyone else," wrote another user.
"Well, well, well! Looks like ChatGPT decided to take a little nap because of all the Ghibli fans crashing the party. Thanks for the heads-up, @sama! Maybe next time we can schedule a “Ghibli Rush Hour”?," wrote another user on X.
