Clearly astonished by the skyrocketing demand, OpenAI's Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman, laid out potential plans regarding its 'Deep Research' feature for its ChatGPT Plus artificial intelligence application. On ChatGPT Plus price, Altman made a big revelation about the free and paid components.

Replying to a post on 'X' (formerly known as Twitter) while praising the Deep Research feature and speculating about its payment plans, Altman stated that the company may initially offer 10 uses per month for ChatGPT Plus. He added, "it probably is worth $1000 a month to some users..."

And what about the ChatGPT free component? The OpenAI CEO said that the same may be restricted. He posted, "...two uses a month, in the free tier."

However, there is some good news as he promised to "scale these up over time".

While money is clearly important, Altman was at pains to highlight not the means, but the end (goal) that users will be aiming for. He posted, "...but i'm excited to see what everyone does with it!"

Altman also said in a reply to his post that in the longer term the firm will structure a "flexible" and "dynamic" payment system for those who want to use the deep research feature due to high demand from users who want to use it frequently.

"Longer-term we still have to find some way to let people to pay for compute they want to use more dynamically. We have been really struck by the demand from some users to hit deep research dozens of times per day," Altman said.

The 'Deep Research' feature functions on the same level as a research analyst but accomplishes a task that would take a human hours in a matter of minutes, according to the company.

The feature takes a prompt from the user and uses hundreds of online sources to synthesise a comprehensive research report. It's powered by a version of their upcoming "o3" AI model, designed for web browsing and data analysis.

Bloomberg reported that Open AI plans to transition from a non-profit company to a 'for-profit' organisation, after courting investment in billions of dollars from companies like Microsoft Corp., which own up to 49% of Open AI's equity.

Altman recently refused to sell the company to a group of investors headed by billionaire Elon Musk for $97.4 billion.

Hitting back at Musk for the unsolicited offer, Altman said, "No thank you but we will buy twitter for $9.74 billion if you want."

Musk had acquired Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion.
