ChatGPT-4o Gets New Updates: Lesser Emojis, More Intuitive Model

Artificial intelligence bot, ChatGPT-4o, will come with more advanced features following an update to the model, its parent company OpenAI announced on Friday.

In a post on X, OpenAI said that ChatGPT’s advanced capabilities will boost its performance in tackling complex technical problems. Moreover, the update boosts the model's intuition. This will yield a more natural response during conversations, Open AI said.

The US-based company added that the improved version will also use less emojis, and focus on streamlined conversational tone. 

The update will be available to all paying users of the platform, with plans of rolling out the features to free users in the coming weeks. 

The updates come amid an intensifying AI race to acquire users with more advanced features, including improved contextual awareness among virtual assistants. Rival companies Google, Amazon and others are also working on similar capabilities. 

Meanwhile, ChatGPT has also been making waves on the internet after launching a new image generator feature two days ago. This tool is trained on popular art techniques inspired by studios like Disney and Studio Ghibli. The new feature allows users to upload their photos and transform them into artwork inspired by these popular styles. 

Since the launch, the feature has gone viral on the internet, particularly the Ghibli version. It is inspired by the renowned Japanese animation company, Studio Ghibli. ChatGPT users globally have been using the feature to collect Ghibli style AI art of popular memes, personal photos and iconic movies.

The development has sparked a debate over concerns about AI's potential infringement on intellectual property rights. Studio Ghibli has not yet reacted to the viral trend of its art style being used in AI. However, an old video of the studio’s founder, Hayao Miyazaki, has resurfaced, showing his disdain for the use of technology in creating art.

In the video, a team of animators and designers showcase their AI-powered animation tool to Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki and director Hayao Miyazaki. The demonstration features an animated figure resembling a grotesque zombie, with the creators explaining that AI can generate unusual, unnatural movements beyond human imagination.

"I can't watch this (the AI creations) stuff and find (it) interesting. Whoever creates this stuff has no idea what pain is whatsoever. I am utterly disgusted. If you really want to make creepy stuff, you can go ahead and do it. I would never wish to incorporate this technology into my work at all," Miyazaki said.
