Amazon launched on Wednesday its latest edition of Kindle Paperwhite, its e-reading device, according to an article on the company's website.
The device currently retails at about Rs 17,000. The e-commerce giant claims that their latest iteration of the Paperwhite series is their fastest and thinnest yet. The company also highlighted the display, which stood at seven inches, the largest it has ever been for the Paperwhite.
The Kindle Paperwhite has a battery life of up to 12 weeks from a single charge, and a USB-C charging port. The device is being powered by a dual core processor that is meant to give users 25% faster page turns and "improved key word touch response", the company said.
The device has a storage capacity of up to 166 GB.
Amazon has integrated features such as 'Word Wise' where accessible definitions of words that may be difficult for readers learning a new language, automatically appear so they don't have to spend time looking them up.
Fan favourite features return, such as the "built-in dictionary", which displays definitions of words when the user highlights them with their finger, and the X-ray feature, which provides vital context regarding the people and the places mentioned in the book.
The device also uses a 300 ppi glare-free display for eye comfort and has a light and dark mode. It also uses a "oxide thin-film transistor" for crisper display of text and images.
Amazon is also selling covers for the device that come in black, marine green and tulip pink colours for around Rs 2,000. This device follows on from the sixth edition of Kindle Paperwhite which was released in October 2024.
It is likely the only version of the Kindle e-reader that users can currently buy from the Amazon website, since all other versions of the device were labelled "currently unavailable" since late 2024.
