For fans of foldable smartphones, 2025 is going to be an year to look forward to. Numerous trifold devices, foldable and flip smartphones with cutting-edge innovations and technology are in the pipeline of manufacturers like OnePlus, Google, and Samsung.
So, from OnePlus Open 2, Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Samsung Z Flip FE to Motorola Razr 60, here's a look at seven foldables expected to hit the market in 2025.
OnePlus Open 2
While earlier reports said OnePlus intends to release the OnePlus Open 2—the next version of its book-style foldable phone—in the first quarter of 2025, it may get delayed, according to the latest leaks.
The new book-style foldable could feature major hardware and design improvements. The device is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. A Hasselblad-tuned triple camera array with a 50MP primary sensor, an ultra-wide lens, and a telephoto lens with optical zoom are among other expected improvements. While the OnePlus Open 2 could house a larger 5,700mAh battery that supports wireless charging, the gadget is expected to remain quite thin.
Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold
Google is expected to unveil the Pixel 10 Pro Fold in September or October 2025. With the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the company put more emphasis on design than cameras to create a device that was thinner than the OnePlus Open and Galaxy Z Fold 6. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is expected to have cameras on par with or better than the Pixel 10 Pro. Given the advancements rolled out to Gemini and focus on AI features, the foldable might be powered by Google’s Tensor G5 chip.
The phone is rumoured to have an LTPO AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, and a display size of 8.0 inch when unfolded and 6.3 inch folded. It will likely feature 16GB RAM with 256GB/512GB storage options, and could even have stylus support.
Samsung Tri-Fold Phone
A recent report claims that Samsung is developing a tri-fold phone that might be released sometime in 2025. ZDNet Korea (in Korean) has cited industry sources to say that Samsung is planning to release a “tri-fold model that can fold the screen twice” and open into a much larger display. The company has reportedly finalised the development and commercialisation plans of the device.
While details of the device are thin, it could compete with tri-fold phones from Xiaomi, Oppo, and Honor stables, which are also reported to be working on such devices.
Motorola Razr 60
Motorola is reportedly gearing up to launch the Razr 60 series of flip devices in 2025, which could be called Razr 60 and Razr 60 Ultra. The phones are anticipated to have improved specifications in comparison to the Razr 50 series, which packs a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED screen, 50MP camera, and a 4000mAh battery for the Ultra model.
Tecno Phantom Ultimate 2
Chinese smartphone manufacturer Tecno had in August introduced the Phantom Ultimate 2 tri-fold prototype, which could hit the market in 2025. The device has a 10-inch double-folding primary display and, at 11mm thick when folded, is thinner than some other foldables. According to the company, the hinge can accommodate over 300,000 folds.
The concept device has a 6.48-inch screen when folded and a 10-inch screen with 4:3 aspect ratio when unfolded. The device’s LTPO OLED panel has a 3K resolution display with dynamic refresh rate modification. Adaptive icons, tent mode, multi-window support, and an improved home screen layout are some other features claimed by the company.
Samsung Z Flip FE
According to a Korean blogger, Samsung’s first low-cost foldable, the Z Flip FE, is in development and is expected to debut later in 2025. This aligns with Samsung’s recent statement during its earnings calls: “We are considering ways to lower entry barriers so that more customers can actually experience foldable products, given the high satisfaction among existing foldable users.”
The Z Flip FE may have a design identical to the Galaxy Z Flip5/6, with a 6.7-inch folding screen on the inside and a cover display on the outside. It could be powered by Android 15-based OneUI 7 and have an IPX8 certification for water protection.
Oppo Tri-Fold Phone
Oppo’s tri-fold phone concept, showcased in August, has dual hinges and a main display with bare minimum bezels. It sports a faux leather textured back with a chrome border. The phone seems to be running a customised version of ColorOS UI featuring large widgets.
The lack of a hole-punch cutout for the front camera on any of the screens, however, raises the possibility that an under-display sensor may be employed.
