KKR Vs RCB IPL 2025:The highly anticipated IPL 2025 opener between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is set to take place on Saturday, Mar. 22, at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. But there is a looming concern that rain could disrupt the opening match of Season 18.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for South Bengal, including Kolkata, till Sunday, Mar. 23.
On Mar. 22, the day of the IPL 2025 opener, the region is expected to experience hailstorms, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km per hour. This could lead to delays or even cause the match to be abandoned.
If the match cannot be played due to bad weather conditions, then points will be divided between KKR and RCB.

The IMD’s forecast suggests that thunderstorms, gusty winds and hailstorms could affect various districts in West Bengal on both Mar. 21 and Mar. 22. In particular, areas such as Jhargram, West Midnapore, East Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia, East Bardhaman, Hooghly and Howrah could witness thundersqualls with winds of 50 to 60 km per hour, lightning and moderate rainfall. Heavy rainfall, exceeding seven cm, is expected in some places in Jhargram and West Midnapore on Mar. 21.
On March 22, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, and East Bardhaman could experience thunderstorms with gusty winds, lightning and hailstorms. The rest of the districts in South Bengal are also likely to see thunderstorms with strong winds, rainfall and lightning.
The weather will also affect North Bengal, with thunderstorms and winds expected over various districts on Mar. 21 and 22. The northern districts of Malda, South Dinajpur, Alipurduar, and Kalimpong are forecasted to experience more intense conditions, including hailstorms.

As the IPL opener nears, all eyes will be on the skies over Kolkata, hoping that rain doesn't spoil what promises to be an exciting clash between the two IPL teams. Fans and players alike will be hoping for clear skies, but with such a high probability of adverse weather, the uncertainty remains.
