IPL 2025: Updated List Of Injured Players And Replacements

It's been less than a month since the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) began, but injuries are already shaping the tournament's course. Many important players have been ruled out due to fitness concerns, prompting franchises to seek replacements mid-season.

Here’s a look at the players who are out injured and the new faces stepping in.

CSK: Elbow Injury Rules Out Ruturaj Gaikwad

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been dealt a setback with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled out after sustaining an elbow fracture. In his place, the franchise has signed 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre from Mumbai.

The right-hander is expected to make his IPL debut in the match against the Mumbai Indians on April 20, according to reports. Mhatre has made a mark in domestic cricket with 962 runs across nine First-Class and seven List-A matches. The right-handed batter has joined CSK for Rs 30 lakh.  

Adam Zampa’s Season Ends

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have signed Karnataka batter Smaran Ravichandran to fill in for injured Australian spinner Adam Zampa who has been ruled out for the entire season. Ravichandran made it to the senior Karnataka squad after overcoming multiple rejections. He has featured in seven First-Class, 10 List A and six T20 games, scoring more than 1,100 runs.

Lockie Ferguson Likely To Miss Entire Season

Punjab Kings are likely to be without New Zealand speedster Lockie Ferguson for the rest of the season. According to a report in Sportstar, Ferguson suffered a side strain during Punjab’s away fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

While the exact nature of the injury hasn’t been disclosed, he remains out indefinitely. The team still has overseas reinforcements in Xavier Bartlett and Azmatullah Omarzai. Among Indian pacers, Vijaykumar Vyshak and Yash Thakur are also on standby.

Glenn Phillips Ruled Out Due To Groin Injury

Gujarat Titans’ Glenn Phillips returned to New Zealand after injuring his groin while fielding in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6. The franchise is yet to announce a replacement. To compound matters, Kagiso Rabada had also exited earlier in the season on April 3 to address a personal issue.

KKR Replace Umran Malik

The plans of defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were disrupted even before the season commenced. Speedster Umran Malik was ruled out due to injury. KKR swiftly moved to sign left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya as a replacement. Malik, known for consistently clocking over 150 kmph, had a limited run in IPL 2024, turning up in just one game for his previous franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Mohsin Khan Ruled Out

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered a blow as pacer Mohsin Khan was sidelined from IPL 2025 due to injury. The franchise then brought in experienced all-rounder Shardul Thakur at his base price of Rs 2 crore. Thakur had gone unsold during the mega auction held in Jeddah in November 2024.

Toe Injury Ends Brydon Carse’s Campaign

Another setback for Sunrisers Hyderabad came in the form of Brydon Carse’s exit due to a toe injury. Carse had initially picked up the injury during England’s white-ball tour of India, and it flared up during the Champions Trophy. SRH have replaced him with South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, who played a crucial role in South Africa’s journey to the Champions Trophy semi-finals, finishing as the team’s joint-highest wicket-taker with six scalps.

Mayank Yadav Set For LSG Return After Injury Layoff

On a positive note for Lucknow Super Giants, fast bowler Mayank Yadav is set to rejoin the team after recovering from an injury that kept him out since the beginning of the season. Yadav is expected to join the squad on April 15. His return will provide a timely boost to LSG’s pace department.
