The same principle will also apply to the third and fourth highest ranked teams to ensure that the two highest-ranked teams will not meet before the final if they win their groups.

FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Draw Live
No group will have more than a team from the same confederation.
This excludes UEFA, which has 16 teams. Each group must have at least one, but no more than two UEFA teams in it.
FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Draw Live: Co-Hosts in Specific Groups
From pot 1, host nations Canada, Mexico and the USA will be identified by different coloured balls and, when drawn, will be assigned to position A1 for Mexico (green ball), B1 for Canada (red ball) and D1 for the USA (blue ball).
The remaining nine top-ranked teams in pot 1 will be identified by nine balls of the same colour and automatically allocated to position 1 of the group into which they are drawn.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will see four debutants — Cape Verde, Curacao, Jordan and Uzbekistan.
This is the first time a World Cup will see so many debutants since the 2006 edition, which saw six teams make their debut in the tournament.

Six of the 48 teams at FIFA World Cup 2026 are yet to be determined and will only be known in March 2026.
