The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave alert for several states in northern and western India from Dec. 18 to Dec. 22.
The met department in its press release on Wednesday predicted a cold wave to severe cold wave in Punjab, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh till Dec. 22.
“Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions very likely to prevail in few places over Himachal Pradesh during 18th to 22nd (December); isolated parts of East Rajasthan during 19th to 21st (December); West Rajasthan on 20th and 21st; Punjab during 18th -22nd December,” the IMD said in its bulletin.
The weather office further issued cold wave alerts for several other areas in the northernmost part of India till Dec. 24. Cold wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad during the next seven days, it said.
West Rajasthan will experience cold wave conditions on Dec. 18, Dec. 19 and Dec. 22. while East Rajasthan will see cold wave on Dec 18 and Dec. 22
Himachal Pradesh is also set to experience cold wave conditions on Dec. 23 and Dec. 24. Cold wave conditions are also likely to prevail over Haryana between Dec. 18 and Dec. 22.
Additionally, ground frost conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh and East Rajasthan from Dec. 18 to Dec. 22.
Isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are very likely to experience dense fog conditions during late night and early morning hours in isolated pockets on Dec. 18 and Dec. 19. East Rajasthan and Jharkhand are likely to see similar fog conditions on Dec. 21 and Dec. 22.
Meanwhile, Delhi recorded another cold morning on Wednesday with the city experiencing minimum temperatures as low as 5 degrees Celsius. The air quality index (AQI) in the national capital remained in the ‘severe’ category, with the Central Pollution Control Board reporting an AQI of 442 at 7 am.
