The deadline for the installation of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) is fast approaching. Several states, such as Rajasthan and Maharashtra, have directed vehicle owners to install HSRP on automobiles.
Installing a high-security registration plate is necessary since HSRPs have a unique number and code. They also feature special locks that prevent the plate from being reused. The number plates can be tracked easily through Laser Identification Systems, with ANPR-enabled cameras, allowing authorities to monitor, catch and fine those who break traffic rules.
As per the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) notification, the deadline to switch to the HSRP is June 30. This is applicable for all commercial and passenger vehicles, as well as two-wheelers.
The use of HSRP number plates has been mandated by the government to reduce vehicle-related crimes and enhance road safety.
The central government had directed that all vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, should install HSRP. Failure to follow the directive may result in fines and legal action. You can apply for an HSRP either online or offline. Documents such as ID proof, driving licence and vehicle registration papers are required for the process.
Along with HSRP, all vehicles with a windshield need to get a special colour-coded sticker as well to identify their fuel type. Different fuel types have different colours, with orange for diesel vehicles, green for electric vehicles and blue for petrol and CNG automobiles.
