Equity Mutual Funds' Inflows Drop 26% In February As SIPs Slip

Actively managed equity mutual funds recorded Rs 29,303.3 crore inflow during February, lower by 26.1%, compared to the inflow of Rs 39,687 crore recorded in January, as per the monthly data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India Wednesday. Active equity AUM dipped about 7% during the month under review, compared to January.

The industry net inflow of the mutual fund industry was at Rs 40,063.3 crore against an inflow of Rs 1.88 lakh crore the previous month. The net AUM of the industry was at Rs 64.53 lakh crore against Rs 67.3 lakh crore last month.

Actively-Managed Equity Funds

Large-cap funds recorded an inflow of Rs 2,866 crore, against Rs 3,063.3 crore in January. The mid-cap category saw an inflow of Rs 3,406.9 crore, while the net flows into the category in the preceding month was Rs 5,147.8 crore. The small-cap funds recorded a net inflow of Rs 3,722.46 crore, while the net inflows stood at Rs 5,721 crore in the previous month.

Flexi-cap funds saw an inflow of Rs 5,104.2 crore, compared to Rs 5,697.5 crore inflow in January.

Inflows into the sectoral and thematic category slipped to Rs 5,711.5 core. Inflows into this category had fallen in January and stood at Rs 9,016.5 crore.

SIP Contribution

The SIP contribution stood marginally lower at Rs 25,999 crore in February, compared to Rs 26,400 crore in January 2025. The number of new SIPs started for the month under review stood at 44,56,000.

The asset under management for SIP stood at Rs 12.38 lakh crore and this accounts for 19.2% of industry assets. Number of SIP accounts discontinued stood at 55 lakh. A new data point provided by AMFI was number of SIP accounts contributing to the inflow, which stood at 8.26 crore.

Debt Funds

Debt funds recorded an outflow of Rs 6,525.5 crore in the month of February, against an inflow of Rs 1.28 lakh crore in January.

Overnight funds recorded an outflow of Rs 2,263.9 core against Rs 18,936.5 crore last month. Liquid funds recorded an inflow of Rs 4,976.97 crore, compared to Rs 91,592.9 crore in January.

Hybrid And Passive Funds

Hybrid schemes saw inflows worth Rs 6,803.8 crore, against Rs 8,767.5 crore inflows recorded in the preceding month, showing a 22% decline in inflow. The highest inflows in the category while arbitrage funds, with inflow of Rs 3,592.33 crore.

In the passive fund category, inflows worth Rs 10,248.96 crore were recorded in February, compared to Rs 10,255.2 crore in January. The category that saw the most inflow was Index funds.

New Fund Offering

Inflows from new fund offers have accounted for inflow of Rs 3,957 crore this month, with 28 out of which eight were active equity fund launches. The inflows accounted by NFOs stood at Rs 4,544 crore in the previous month.

Seven NFO's in the sectoral category saw the most number of NFO launches.
