Foreign institutional investors became sellers in the cash market on Tuesday, and net sellers in index options, stock options, index futures and stock futures for the second day in a row.
FIIs In Cash Market
Overseas investors stayed net sellers of Indian equities for the second straight day on Tuesday, while domestic investors turned net buyers.
Foreign portfolio investors offloaded stocks worth Rs 6,409.9 crore, while domestic institutional investors mopped up stocks worth Rs 2,706.5 crore, according to provisional data shared by the National Stock Exchange.
The FPIs offloaded equities worth Rs 226.7 crore, while the DIIs bought Rs 2,880 crore last week. In December so far, the FPIs have mopped up equities worth Rs 5,018.3 crore, and the DIIs purchased stocks worth Rs 7,144.7 crore.
In November, the FPIs sold stocks worth Rs 45,974.1 crore, and the DIIs mopped up stocks worth Rs 44,483.9 crore. In October, the FPIs had sold equities worth Rs 1.14 lakh crore, and the DIIs bought equities worth Rs 1.07 lakh crore.
In 2024 so far, foreign institutions have been net sellers of Rs 10,872 crore worth of Indian equities, according to data from the National Securities Depository Ltd., updated till the previous trading day.
FIIs In Futures And Options
Ahead of the Dec. 24 expiry, the value of outstanding positions — also called open interest in the derivatives segment — has decreased for the FIIs in Nifty futures. The FIIs' long-to-short ratio in index futures remains at 36%:64%.
The FIIs sold index futures worth Rs 1,224 crore, index options worth Rs 29,637 crore, stock futures worth Rs 6,360 crore, and stock options worth Rs 4,013 crore.
FII Contract Value
The value of the total Nifty 50 futures open interest in the market increased by Rs 111 crore at the end of December expiry from Rs 26,908 crore a day earlier to Rs 27,019 crore.
F&O Cues
The Nifty December futures were down by 1.36% to 24,401 at a premium of 65 points, with the open interest up by 1.73%.
The open interest distribution for the Nifty 50 Dec. 19 expiry series indicated most activity at 25,000 call strikes, with the 23,900 put strikes having maximum open interest.
Long-Short Ratio
The total long-short ratio for foreign investors fell to 1.10 from 1.23 in the earlier session.
