The top 10 most-valued firms gained a cumulative Rs 71,903.1 crore in market valuation on Friday, with Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. and Infosys Ltd. emerging as the biggest gainers.
TCS added Rs 81,823.1 crore, taking its market capitalisation to Rs 15.4 lakh crore. Infosys gained Rs 20,138.5 crore in its market cap, which now stands at Rs 8.16 lakh crore.
HCL Technologies Ltd. and Bharti Airtel Ltd. gained Rs 16,906.1 crore and Rs 2,249.8 crore respectively. Hindustan Unilever Ltd.'s market capitalisation rose Rs 1,080.8 crore to Rs 5.73 lakh crore.
State Bank of India was the biggest loser as its market cap fell Rs 13,967.1 crore to Rs 6.64 lakh crore. Reliance Industries Ltd.'s market valuation fell Rs 12,449.8 crore to Rs 16.9 lakh crore.
HDFC Bank Ltd. lost Rs 8,259.5 crore in market cap, bringing it to Rs 12.7 lakh crore. ITC Ltd.'s market cap fell Rs 7,819.8 crore to Rs 5.55 lakh crore, while ICICI Bank Ltd.'s market cap decreased Rs 7,799.1 crore to Rs 8.83 lakh crore.
RIL retained its position as the most-valued firm, followed by TCS, HDFC Bank, Airtel, ICICI Bank, Infosys, SBI, HUL, ITC and HCLTech.
Indian equities seesawed through gains and losses but closed lower for the second consecutive day on Friday as financials, pharma and energy stocks weighed. Gains in information-technology stocks helped soften the decline.
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 95 points or 0.4% lower at 23,431.5, while BSE Sensex closed 241.3 points or 0.31% down at 77,378.91. During the session, the Nifty declined as much as 0.77%, to an intraday low of 23,344, while the Sensex fell 0.67% to 77,099.
The Nifty entered the correction zone for the second time in two months.
