The benchmark equity indices continued to decline for the second straight day on Wednesday, dragged by share prices of ICICI Bank Ltd. and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 41.35 points or 0.17% lower at 24,812.05, while the BSE Sensex closed 138.64 points or 0.17% down at 81,444.66. During the day, the Nifty fell 0.41% to trade at 24,750.45 and the Sensex fell 0.42% to 81,237.01.
Shares of IndusInd Bank and Titan were the top gainers.
Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. were among the biggest laggards.
In terms of points contribution, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Bharti Airtel Ltd. were among stocks that led the gains in the index.
ICICI Bank and Tata Consultancy Services dragged the index the most.
On the NSE, 12 out of the 15 sectors ended in the red, with Nifty Media, IT and Metal declining the most.
The broader market indices underperformed as the BSE MidCap and SmallCap both declined 0.36%.
The market breadth was skewed in favour of the sellers as 2,395 stocks declined, 1,552 advanced and 150 remained unchanged on the BSE
