Sensex and Nifty 50 ended the day with gains on Wednesday's trading session. Nifty 50 ended 0.36% higher at 24,666.90 and Sensex closed 0.22% up at 81,330.56.

The close with gains on Wednesday marked a resumption in the rally after one-day blip on Tuesday, when both benchmark indices ended with losses.

Those losses came after the markets climbed nearly 4% higher on Monday, followed by easing tension between India and Pakistan and encouraging signals from ongoing US-China trade talks.

Notably, Monday marked the biggest intraday jump since 2021 for both Sensex and Nifty.

"Indian equities witnessed heightened volatility throughout the trading session. After a strong opening, the index soared higher, mainly driven by metal and IT stocks. However, a sudden decline in banking stocks pulled the index into negative territory. Despite this setback, the index gradually recovered and ended the session at 24,666.90, with gains of 88.55 points," said Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares.

In terms of point contribution, Infosys Ltd. added 18.94 points to Nifty 50, highest in Tuesday's trade. Meanwhile, HDFC Bank Ltd. weighed the most on Nifty 50, with 20.19 points.

On NSE, 13 out of 15 sectoral indices ended with gains. Nifty Defence was the top gainer, followed by Nifty Metal and Nifty Realty.

The market breath was skewed in the favour of buyers as 2,857 stocks advanced, 1,130 stocks declined and 138 stocks remained unchanged on BSE.
