Last week's momentum in Indian stocks carried over on Monday, as the two benchmarks posted their sixth consecutive day of gains.
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 307.95 points, or 1.32% higher at 23,658.35, while the BSE Sensex closed 1,078.87 points, or 1.40% up, after they reported their best week in four years.
Share price of Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. rose 5%, reaching over a three-year high as trading volumes surged. The scrip rose to Rs 2,184 apiece. It settled 4.5% higher.
The scrip's last recorded peak was on Oct. 27, 2021, when the stock had surged to Rs 2,190.
The second best performer was NTPC Ltd., which gained 4.8% to Rs 368 apiece during the day. At market close, the stock gained as much as 4.5% to Rs 367 apiece.
State Bank of India also closed the day with gains as the stock soared 3.7% to end at Rs 781 apiece.
The top laggard was IndusInd Bank Ltd. as the stock fell 2.8%, along with Titan Co. that closed 2.7% lower at Rs 2,801.85.
Trent Ltd., Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Bharti Airtel Ltd. followed.
Besides, on the Nifty, 41 stocks advanced and nine declined. In terms of market cap, the 50-stock index added Rs 2.48 lakh crore in value.
