FPIs Turn Net Buyers After Two Days Of Selling

This week, foreign portfolio investors offloaded equities worth Rs 226.7 crore, while the domestic institutional investors bought stocks worth Rs 2,880 crore.

Overseas investors turned net buyers of Indian equities on Friday after two consecutive days of selling, while domestic institutional investors turned net sellers after three days of buying.

Foreign portfolio investors bought stocks worth Rs 2,335.3 crore, whereas the DIIs offloaded stocks worth Rs 732.2 crore, according to provisional data shared by the National Stock Exchange.

This week, the FPIs have offloaded equities worth Rs 226.7 crore, while the DIIs have bought Rs 2,880 crore. In December so far, the FPIs have mopped up equities worth Rs 11,706.9 crore and the DIIs purchased stocks worth Rs 4,672.5 crore.

In November, the FPIs sold stocks worth Rs 45,974.1 crore, and the DIIs mopped up stocks worth Rs 44,483.9 crore. In October, the FPIs had sold equities worth Rs 1.14 lakh crore, and the DIIs bought equities worth Rs 1.07 lakh crore.

In 2024 so far, foreign institutions have been net sellers of Rs 7,747 crore worth of Indian equities, according to data from the National Securities Depository Ltd., updated till the previous trading day.

The benchmark equity indices recorded a fourth straight week of gains as they ended higher after a volatile trading session on Friday.

The NSE Nifty 50 ended 219.60 points or 0.89% higher at 24,768.30, and the BSE Sensex closed 843.16 points or 1.04% up at 82,133.12. During the day, both the Nifty and Sensex fell over 1% and also rose more than 1%.

The market looks forward to the US Federal Open Market Committee's decision next week. CME FedWatch Tool showed a 96.7% chance of a 25-basis-point rate cut in the December meeting.

On a weekly basis, the Nifty gained 0.4% and Sensex ended 0.5% up. The Nifty IT gained the most this week after it hit its lifetime high on Friday.
