FPIs Stay Net Sellers For Six Straight Segments, Offload Rs 2,255 Crore

The foreign portfolio investors on Friday stayed net sellers of Indian shares and sold stocks worth approximately Rs 2,254.68 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange. The DIIs that have been buyers for the 18th session bought stocks worth Rs 3,961.92 crore.

The FPIs sold stake worth Rs 7,044.31 crore on Thursday, according to the National Securities Depository Ltd. So far in January 2024, FPIs have sold stakes worth Rs 22,194 crore, according to NSDL.

According to NSDL data collected by NDTV Profit, FPIs have offloaded stock worth Rs 16,908.03 crore in the stock exchanges until Jan 9.

This comes as the Indian benchmarks closed lower for the second consecutive day on Friday. The NSE Nifty 50 ended 95 points or 0.4%, lower at 23,431.5, while the BSE Sensex closed 241.3 points or 0.31%, down at 77,378.91.

The Nifty entered the correction zone for the second time in two months. The index has declined over 10% from its 52-week high of 26,178 in late September. The Nifty was in correction territory in late November as well when it dipped below 23,400.

On the technical front, a long bearish candle has formed on the weekly charts, accompanied by a lower top formation on the intraday charts, indicating a largely negative trend.

Through 2024, overseas investors have been net sellers and have collectively offloaded stocks worth Rs 7,292.3 crore so far this year, according to data from NSDL compiled by NDTV Profit.

On the other hand, domestic institutional investors stayed net buyers through the year and bought stocks worth Rs 5.32 lakh crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange compiled by NDTV Profit.

In December, FPIs have sold stakes worth Rs 7,292.27 crore, according to NSDL, while DIIs have bought stakes worth Rs 34,194.70 crore as per NSE.
