The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Aam Aadmi Party secured one win each on Monday in the Gujarat Assembly by-elections.

AAP's Gopal Italia won the Visavadar seat, while BJP's Rajendra Chavda secured victory in Kapi, as per the Election Commission of India website.

The Congress-led United Democratic Front bagged the Nilambur constituency in Kerala. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is a Lok Sabha MP from Kerala's Wayanad, congratulated Aryadan Shoukath on his victory in the polls. The Nilambur bypoll was seen as a prestige battle for Gandhi.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP also won the Ludhiana West bypoll. This comes months after the drubbing in the Delhi polls and the Punjab elections that are less than two years away.

Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress won in Kaliganj in West Bengal, which will hold assembly polls next year.

The bypolls were necessitated after the deaths of the incumbent legislators in one seat each in Gujarat, West Bengal and Punjab, and the resignation of two MLAs in Kerala and Gujarat.

The counting of votes for the bypolls  which were held last Thursday for two seats in Gujarat's Visavadar and Kadi, and one each in Nilambur, Ludhiana West and Kaliganj  began on Monday morning.
