Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran Conferred UK Knighthood — Here's What He Said

Bharti Enterprises’ Sunil Bharti Mittal has also been conferred Knighthood in the same category.

Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the Chairman of Tata Sons, has been conferred with knighthood, one of the civilian honours in the UK. Chandrasekaran has received the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Civil Division) for his services to business relations between India and the UK. Bharti Enterprises’ Sunil Bharti Mittal has also been conferred Knighthood in the same category.

After receiving the recognition, Chandrasekaran thanked Britain's King Charles III. "I am deeply humbled by this prestigious recognition, for which I am grateful to His Majesty, King Charles," he said.

Chandrasekaran added that the Tata Group will continue to work for a strong strategic relationship with the UK across the domains of technology, consumer, hospitality, steel, chemicals, and automotive sectors.

"We are incredibly proud of our iconic British brands like Jaguar Land Rover and Tetley," he said.

Tata Sons employs over 70,000 people across the UK and plays a key role in research and academic partnerships with institutions such as the University of Oxford, the London School of Economics, the University of Warwick, and the University of Swansea.

Chandrasekaran thanked the UK government and added, "I would also like to express, on behalf of the Tata Sons, my deep thanks to HM Government for their support for the Sons. It is a strong and enduring relationship, and I look forward to strengthening our presence in the UK further. Thank you once again for paying me this great honour,"

In addition to N Chandrasekaran and Sunil Bharti Mittal, Dagmar Dolby, Eric SCHMIDT, Vladimir Jurowski, Wei Shen Lim and Stephen A Schwarzman have been felicitated with the Knighthood in the same category.

Who Is N Chandrasekeran ?

N Chandrasekaran took over the top role at Tata Sons in 2017 following Cyrus Mistry's ouster. Born into a family of farmers in Tamil Nadu's Mohanur, Chandrasekaran completed his early schooling at a local government school. He then moved to Coimbatore Institute of Technology for a bachelor's degree in Applied Sciences and a Master of Computer Applications (MCA) from the Regional Engineering College in Tiruchirappalli.

N Chandrasekaran started his professional journey as an intern at TCS in 1987. He rose to become a part of the TCS board in 2007 before taking up the company's Chief Operating Officer (COO) role.

N Chandrasekaran became the CEO of India's largest IT company in 2009, making him the youngest to assume the role at the age of 46.
