In the opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2022 on Sunday, November 20, 2022, host nation Qatar was defeated by Ecuador by 2 goals. This was the tournament’s first edition where the opening goal was scored from the penalty spot.
However, many football fans in India could not witness this. As the opening game of the FIFA World Cup 2022 kicked off, Indian fans were left disappointed due to buffering issues during the live streaming of the match on the JioCinema app.
Apologising to the fans for the inconvenience, JioCinema tweeted “Dear JioCinema fans, We are continuously working to give you a great experience. Please upgrade your app to the latest version to enjoy #FIFAWorldCupQatar2022. Apologies for any inconvenience.”
To this, a user replied “At 300 Mbps broadband connection, the picture is getting stuck again & again. It is a very bad experience. Now even SonyLIV seems superb in comparison to this. It's gonna be a horrifying experience for Indian fans. Get ready to be disappointed 😞😞”
What followed was a meme fest on the micro-blogging platform Twitter about the quality of streaming provided by JioCinema. Joining the bandwagon, in a now-deleted tweet, JioCinema took a dig at themselves by posting a tweet with a video showing a labourer at work. The tweet read "Our team hard at work to solve some of your buffering issues”
