Adani's Vizhinjam Port Welcomes MSC Turkiye, World's Largest Green Container Ship

Kerala's Vizhinjam International Seaport, operated by Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd., on Wednesday welcomed the world's largest eco-friendly container ship MSC Turkiye.

The MSC Turkiye, run by the Mediterranean Shipping Company, is of 399.9 metres in length, 61.3 m in width and 33.5 m in depth, as per an official release.

The ship can load 24,346 twenty-foot equivalent units, making it one of the largest container ships ever built.

The Vizhinjam port, where the ship is docked, is also a world-class, future-ready port. It is the sole trans-shipment hub in the Indian subcontinent, and closest to the international shipping routes. It is only 10 nautical miles, or 19 km, away from the crucial east-west shipping channel that connects Europe, the Persian Gulf, Southeast Asia, and the Far East.

In its business update released last week, Adani Ports noted that the Vizhinjam port crossed 100,000 TEUs milestone during the month of March.

Overall, Adani Ports handled its highest-ever cargo volume at 41.5 MMT in March. This was led by a 19% year-on-year increase in container traffic and 5% year-on-year increase in liquid and gas volumes.
