Stock Market Today: All You Need To Know Going Into Trade On Jan. 13

Stocks in the Asia Pacific region began the week cautiously as uncertainties mounted on future rate cuts by the Federal Reserve following the latest US jobs data.

While, Japan’s market is closed on Monday for a holiday, South Korea's Kospi was down 17 points or 0.71% at 2,497. Future contracts in Mainland China and Hong Kong pointed to a negative start.

The equity benchmark in China are seeing their worst start to a year since 2016 after falling over 5% in the first seven trading sessions of 2025.

All three main US stock market indices ended lower on Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing 696 points lower, or 1.63%. The S&P 500 shed 1.54%. The Nasdaq Composite lost 1.64%.

The dollar index — which tracks the greenback's performance against a basket of 10 leading global currencies — was 0.03% up at 109.68. This comes after the index strengthened to a two-year high on Friday.

Brent crude was trading 1.73% higher at $81.14 a barrel as of 6:350 a.m. IST. Gold spot was trading 0.30% lower at $2,681.75 an ounce.

Indian equities seesawed through gains and losses but closed lower for the second consecutive day on Friday as financials, pharma and energy stocks weighed. Gains in information-technology stocks helped soften the decline.

The NSE Nifty 50 ended 95 points or 0.4%, lower at 23,431.5, while BSE Sensex closed 241.3 points or 0.31%, down at 77,378.91.

The foreign portfolio investors on Friday stayed net sellers of Indian shares and sold stocks worth approximately Rs 2,254.68 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange. The DIIs that have been buyers for the 18th session bought stocks worth Rs 3,961.92 crore.

The Indian rupee weakened by 11 paise to close at an all-time low against the US dollar on Friday, just three paise away from hitting the 86 mark.

Stocks to Watch

  • Ugro Capital: The company said that its assets under management rose 32% on a yearly basis in the October–December period of the current financial year to over Rs 11,050 crore. In the quarter, the financial services provider crossed a significant milestone by lending over Rs 2,050 crore, which is its lifetime highest net loans.

  • Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation: The company, along with Nusli Wadia, Ness Wadia, other Wadia family members, and related entities, has reached a settlement with SEBI for alleged securities law violations.

  • Poly Medicure: The company is in partnership with Ampin and is set to form a joint venture to establish a solar power project.

  • Sarda Energy & Minerals: The company’s arm has successfully synchronised the 24.9 MW Rehar Small Hydro Project with the grid.

  • ICICI Lombard: The company has secured a relief of over Rs. 175 crore in an income tax dispute.

  • Adani Wilmar – The promoter, Adani Commodities, intends to exercise the oversubscription option in the OFS for an additional 1.51% stake. The total aggregate number of offer shares is expected to be up to 19.5 crore.

  • Power Finance and Power Grid: The company has transferred its arm, Kudankulam JSTS Transmission, to Power Grid Corporation of India.

  • NIBE: The company has received the status of 'Mega Projects' for its proposed manufacturing unit in Ahmednagar, which will focus on manufacturing aircraft parts.

  • Waaree Energies: The company has entered into a share purchase agreement with Enel Green Power for the acquisition of Enel Green Power India Pvt Ltd for Rs 792 crore. Following this acquisition, EGPIPL will become a subsidiary of Waaree Energies.

  • Varroc Engineering: The National Company Law Tribunal has approved the amalgamation of Varroc Polymers with the company.

  • Signatureglobal: The company plans to acquire 16.12 acres of land in Haryana, with an overall potential developable area of approximately 2.73 million square feet.

  • Hindustan Unilever: The company has incorporated an arm named Kwality Wall's for the purpose of the proposed demerger of its ice cream business.

  • Infosys: The company has filed a counterclaim against Cognizant, accusing the company of anti-competitive practices and talent poaching. The claim also includes allegations of the misuse of its healthcare platform, Helix. This legal battle comes after Cognizant sued Infosys for stealing trade secrets.

  • JSW Energy: The company's arm, JSW Neo Energy, has completed the acquisition of special purpose vehicles holding a portfolio of 125 MW of renewable energy from the Hetero Group. The Hetero portfolio was valued at an enterprise value of approximately Rs 630 crore.

  • Ola Electric: The company has received a further request for information from the Central Consumer Protection Authority. This follows a previous show cause notice that the company had received from CCPA.

  • RVNL: The company has informed the exchange regarding the registration of the branch office in Rwanda.

  • Electronics Mart: The company has informed the Exchange about the commencement of commercial production/operations.

  • Arvind: The company has filed an application with NCLT for the slump sale of the Advanced Material Undertaking of the company to its wholly owned subsidiary.

Oberoi Realty anticipates being entitled to a free sale component of approximately 3.2 lakh square feet from the development and redevelopment of the said land.
