DJ Daniel, a 13-year-old brain cancer survivor with a dream of joining law enforcement, has been appointed as the honourary U.S. Secret Service agent by President Donald Trump.
During his first speech in the US Congress on Mar. 4, Trump honoured DJ Daniel, saying, "Tonight, DJ, we're going to do you the biggest honour of them all."
Trump said that he has asked Secret Service Director Sean Curran to officially make Daniel an agent of the United States Secret Service.
He highlighted that Daniel has "always dreamed" of becoming a police officer. “Joining us in the gallery tonight is a young man who truly loves our police,” Donald Trump said, applauding DJ’s commitment.
The president went on to talk about the resilience DJ has shown in his battle against cancer.
"The doctors gave him five months at most to live. That was more than six years ago. Since that time, DJ and his dad have been on a quest to make his dream come true," Trump added.
Who Is Devarjaye 'DJ' Daniel?
Devarjaye 'DJ' Daniel is no ordinary teenager. At just 13 years old, he has faced more adversity than most do in a lifetime. Diagnosed with brain cancer in 2018, DJ was given only five months to live. Yet, defying all odds, he continues to fight bravely, carrying an unbreakable spirit and a love for law enforcement.
DJ has spent years as an honourary officer in police departments across the United States, making it his mission to raise awareness for childhood cancer and honour those who serve.
Through his story, he seeks to raise awareness for childhood cancer and honour those who serve. Recognising his dedication, Trump has made him an honorary member of the US Secret Service.
Following the announcement, Curran handed a badge to Daniel, a video of which is now viral on social media platforms.
In the clip, Texas-based Daniel is seen receiving the honour while wearing his Houston Police Department uniform. He then proceeded to hug the Secret Service director, sparking a new wave of applause and cheers in the House Chamber.
Curran himself assumed the office on January 22. He gained fame and Trump's favour after shielding the former president during a shooting at a Pennsylvania campaign last year.
