iOS 19 is set to make its grand debut at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9. The update brings fresh features and a slick redesign, but not all iPhones will be lucky enough to receive it. If you have an iPhone XR or iPhone XS, you may be out of luck—these models could fall behind too quickly.
End Of Road For iPhone XR, XS?
Through the years, Apple has been pretty generous with software updates, and it keeps older iPhones running smoothly for years now. Back in 2018, the iPhone XR and iPhone XS had a good run, with updates up to iOS 18. However, as per 9to5mac, iOS 19 will be the first time they don't get an update.
This is coming from a known source on X whose Apple leaks have good standing. This would mean that Apple is finally saying goodbye to iPhones running the A12 Bionic chip, which is a few generations old already.
Which iPhones Are Eligible For iOS 19?
The good news is that if your iPhone is feeling nervous, many models will still receive iOS 19. These include:
iPhone 16 series (all models)
iPhone 15 series
iPhone 14 series
iPhone 13 series
iPhone 12 series
iPhone 11 series
iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation)
Whatever Apple might be planning, it hasn't confirmed anything yet, so there's still a tiny glimmer of hope for older iPhones. However, if this is to be true, then it might be time to start considering an upgrade. We will have more information to share at WWDC 2025, so be sure to check out the official announcement!
