Microsoft Research has released a new study where the authors reveal the 40 jobs most likely to be affected by the rise of generative AI, as well as those whose professions may not be impacted. It must be noted Microsoft itself has laid off 15000 employees this year while saving $500 million, thanks to the deployment of AI tools.
While the study was primarily based on US data, it definitely has relevance for India considering how many job roles are common across geographies.
The jobs most impacted are mainly knowledge roles with people using computers, and where gen AI tools can play a significant role. The researchers explained that this list doesn’t mean that AI will replace all these jobs, but there is a greater chance that AI would be able to handle these tasks (and which we suppose could lead to job losses down the line).
