The hotly anticipated Play Station 6 from Sony may hit store shelves sooner than anticipated according to recent leaks from a well-known tipster.

According to a post from user 'KeplerL2' on the video game forum NeoGAF, the gaming console may come out some time in 2027 due to its system of chip design already being reportedly completed.

They stated that the design for the PS6 was complete and was in pre-silicon validation, with its A0 tapeout being scheduled for later in 2025.

A 'tape-out' is the final stage of the design process, where the chip design is completed and sent for fabrication on a silicon wafer.

The 'pre-silicon' validation stage is testing and approval of a semi-conductor to verify its design functionality using hardware prootypes and virtual simulation methods.

They further said that it might not neccessarily launch on a three nanometer process mode, which is one of the most efficient processing modes for semiconductor chips and might opt for AMD's Zen 6 chip architecture which is expected to come out in 2026 with some of it running on two nanometer process mode.

The tipster also said that the console's graphics processing unit would be based on an early version of AMD's gfx13.

The first hint of the PS6's arrival was revealed in 2023, when court documents accessed by IGN regarding the Federal Trade Commission's opposition to Microsoft's acquisition of video game developer Activision Blizzard, over the organisation's concerns over its concerns of Microsoft making the 'Call Of Duty' franchise of first-person shooter games, exclusive to its Xbox consoles, giving Microsoft too much of an edge in the video game market over its competitors.

Microsoft stated that it had a ten-year commitment to release the Call of Duty games on its competitor PlayStation's gaming platforms. Its statements regarding the consoles hinted at a 2028 release for the PS6.
