To prove that they are working at the very forefront of technology and pioneering fancy new systems, many companies roll out eye-ball grabbing gadgets. Oppo is one such company and it is set to make a launch that is expected to rewrite some records. The company is set to launch the Oppo Find N5 and it is said to debut as the thinnest foldable phone in the world, as revealed by MacRumors. For weeks the company has been teasing the device — and touting its super-slim profile, promising a waterproof build, and importantly, nearly invisible display crease.
The Oppo Find N5 is thin, very thin. The device is breaking the design boundaries and is likely measuring in at just 4mm thick when unfolded, according to reports, making it thinner than the previous holder of the record, the Honor Magic V3, which measured in at 4.35mm.
Highlighting not just this amazing milestone and indicating it is not just a one-trick pony, the latest trailer from Oppo focuses on other key features of the Find N5 too. This includes a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, an alert slider and a camera bump. It may release in the Cosmic Black and Misty White colors. Some colors may be exclusive to China.
Following on from MacRumors, the smartphone industry is fixated on taking thinness to an extreme degree. Just a few days ago, Samsung teased its upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge — a super-slim flagship that drew as much, if not more, attention than even the newly-launched Galaxy S23 flagship series.
In the meantime, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 Air in September, replacing the Plus model in its lineup. According to reports, this could be Apple’s slimmest iPhone ever. According to tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 17 Air will be only 5.5mm thick at its thinnest, except where the camera bump is.
Highlighting Find N5 capabilities, Oppo's Pete Lau has already taken potshots at Samsung in his tweet - check it out below:
Do remember that these Samsung and Apple smartphones are not foldables. Samsung already has its Flip and Fold smartphones in the market, while Apple is reportedly working on its foldable iPhone.
As Oppo continues to challenge the limits of foldable phone design, the Oppo Find N5 is likely to make a huge impact in the smartphone market. For those who are eager to see if this device truly sets a new standard for slim foldables, the official launch is quite near. Stay tuned.
