Apple iPhone 17 Air To Be Thinnest Smartphone In The World? Here's What We Know

According to a leak, Apple’s iPhone 17 Air may be the world’s thinnest smartphone, measuring just 5.44mm at its slimmest point. It may even beat the Tecno Spark Slim. But there may be a catch.

Apple is likely set to revolutionise smartphone design yet again. A new iPhone 17 Air leak suggests that the tech giant's upcoming smartphone may well become the world's thinnest smartphone.

However, it will face fierce competition from a Chinese phone maker. At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, The Tecno Spark Slim concept phone has been revealed and it measures in at just 5.75mm in thickness. Apple seems to be preparing to outdo Tecno, if a new iPhone 17 Air leak is to be believed.

iPhone 17 Air: How Thin Will It Be?

Images shared by well-known tipster Majin Bu on X (formerly Twitter) suggest that the iPhone 17 Air will be even thinner. In the images, we see a polymer or resin dummy model of the iPhone 17 Air with a digital caliper measuring its thickness at just 5.44mm, much thinner than Tecno Spark Slim and hence, it may well become the "thinnest" smartphone in the world. However, there is a proviso.

This measurement, if accurate, would make it slimmer than Tecno’s Spark Slim and rival flagship models like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge.

iPhone 17 Air: Slim Design With A Catch?

This measurement reflects the iPhone 17 Air’s thinnest point and does not include the camera bump. The leaked image supports earlier rumours that the iPhone 17 Air will feature a long and thin camera bar housing a single lens.

The dummy model bears a striking resemblance to CAD renders shared in February 2025 by Majin Bu.

According to PhoneArena, the new camera bump could increase the iPhone 17 Air’s maximum thickness, bringing it closer to the reported 5.84mm of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge.

Pushing the limits of thinness often comes with compromises, and for the iPhone 17 Air, that could mean a smaller battery, reportedly around 3,000 mAh. This may affect battery life between charges.

The device is expected to feature a 1260 x 2740-pixel display with a 120Hz refresh rate and likely measure between 6.5 and 6.7 inches.

However,  the Air model of the iPhone may lack some of the advanced display technologies rumoured for the iPhone 17 Pro. Internally, reportedly, it may house an A19 chip, 8GB of RAM and storage options of either 256GB or 512GB. The camera setup is expected to include a single 48MP rear camera and a 24MP front camera.

This may also mean iPhone 17 Air price may not be as as those of the premium iPhones.

That said, these details remain speculative. With the iPhone 17 Air not expected to launch until September 2025, more leaks and rumours are likely to surface in the coming months.
