Google is known for regularly dropping new features for its Pixel devices, and these updates are called Pixel Drops. They tend to arrive packed with fun changes, sometimes up to 15 to 20 changes all at once. However, things remain relatively quiet this April for Google.
There’s just one big feature for Pixel phone users this time. Don’t worry, it’s a fun one, though.
The latest and potentially most useful addition is Gemini Live, which might just change how you think about using your phone’s AI assistant. Now, instead of just typing or speaking to it, you can show it what you’re looking at with your camera. If you like, you can also share your phone screen so you can get real-time help or advice.
In a quick demo, Someone quickly pointed their camera toward a shark in an aquarium and asked Gemini to describe what type it was. Gemini answered right away. And it’s basically like having a super smart friend in your pocket who is ready to help no matter where you are or what you’re doing.
The feature is offered for free to all Pixel 9 users. However, if you don’t have a Pixel 9, you can get it through a Gemini Advanced subscription. It means more people can try it out without having the latest phone.
In the U.S., there is also one small update for Pixel Watch 2 and Watch 3 users. If your watch is linked to a Pixel 9 and you speak English, you can now receive Scam Detection alerts on your wrist. Even during a call itself, this feature highlights suspicious calls. It’s not always perfect, but it gives another layer of safety and peace of mind.
So, while this month’s update is lighter than usual, the new AI tools might still impress you.
