ModAir Aviation is set to become one of the first leasing and finance companies in India to embrace eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) leasing through its strategic collaboration with The ePlane Company, an urban air mobility startup, marking a step towards the mainstream adoption of electric aviation.

The ePlane Company is working to reimagine urban air transport with its flying electric taxi, designed to alleviate congestion and provide a cost-effective alternative for urban and intercity travel. By integrating ModAir’s expertise in aircraft leasing with The ePlane Company’s technology, this partnership aims to drive widespread adoption of eVTOLs and improve future mobility.

ModAir will offer leasing solutions for The ePlane Company’s flagship eVTOL, the e200X—an ultra-compact aircraft that aims to provide safe, sustainable, and affordable transport. This approach to leasing lowers the barriers to entry for operators, facilitating a smoother transition into electric aviation.

“Having aircraft lessors embrace eVTOLs is a transformative step in the aviation landscape. This partnership lays the groundwork for operators to adopt this technology effortlessly. We are eager to drive this collaboration towards successful deployment,” said Satyanarayanan Chakravarthy, founder of The ePlane Company.

With ModAir stepping into eVTOL leasing, the partnership signals a shift in the aviation industry. The move enables operators to integrate electric air mobility solutions more seamlessly, unlocking new opportunities for sustainable transportation in India.

“ModAir is excited to partner with a marquee company such as The ePlane Company for the e200X. Its range and payload capabilities offer immense potential for both intercity and intracity applications. We look forward to scaling our leasing operations as the market matures,” said Amit Mittal, CEO of ModAir.

The partnership comes at a time when the Indian air taxi market is looking to boom. The growth of the market is fueled by increased government initiatives and investments by the major aviation sector companies. The Indian air taxi sector is expected to grow at CAGR of 18.4% from 2023 to 2033.

The government has also reportedly identified six paths for air taxi commute in Delhi-National Capital Region and is also expected to make around 48 helipads in the region.
