The spanking new Samsung Galaxy S25 series may not have pleased the aficionados as there were not many groundbreaking changes, but it came with one improvement: support for Qi 2.1 wireless charging. Notably, regardless of the update, the charging speeds still remains the same. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, the priciest in the series, has a charging speed of 25W. The other two, S25 and and S25 Plus have 15W. Considering the S25 is more or less like the latest avatar of S24, Qi 2.1 becomes quite a talking point as it opens the gates for new and better accessory compatibility - in the future.

What’s New With Qi 2.1?
However, with Qi 2.1, you won't need to work with cables as magnetic wireless charging support makes connections more stable, easy and efficient, especially for compatible accessories. In contrast, other Android smartphones are stuck on Qi 1.3.3.
Another key feature that comes with S25 is the Automatic Alignment Profile (AAP) for power transmitters. This is particularly useful for in-car wireless charging. If your vehicle comes equipped with compatible chargers then you can arrange the charging coils to align with the phone, all possible because of Qi 2.1, GSMArena revealed.
A Future-Ready Upgrade
While these features sound promising, cars with built-in Qi 2.1 support are not yet available. The first models are expected to arrive later this year, meaning this upgrade is more of a future-proofing move rather than an immediate game-changer.
As far as benefits are concerned, 9to5Google reveals that there are not many. At least, not at the moment. Having said that, by rolling out this new standard, Samsung is plugging its own magnet cases. This provides buyers the opportunity to use Qi2 officially as well as MagSafe accessories.
The Galaxy S25 series maintains similar charging speeds yet provides a new generation of wireless charging standards that enhances both convenience and reliability. Those who need wireless charging each day will find this update an appreciated addition.
