Torrent Group completes acquisition of majority stake in Gujarat TitansStar India batter Shubman Gill will continue to lead Gujarat Titans in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise created history by securing the title in its debut season in 2022. Hardik Pandya, who was their winning captain, led GT to become the runners-up in the following edition.
After Pandya returned to Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2024, Gill took over the leadership duties. Under his leadership, GT failed to match the expectations and finished eighth in the league standings. They will be keen to bounce back this time and claim their second trophy.
Gujarat Titans will open their campaign in IPL 2025 with a home match against Punjab Kings on Mar. 25. The former champions have built a strong squad comprising both experienced seniors and talented youngsters. GT had retained five key players ahead of the last mega auction. Besides Gill, Rashid Khan, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan were handed a renewed contract.
The Gujarat-based franchise spent Rs 15.75 crore to sign England star Jos Buttler at the mega auction. They roped in Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj to strengthen their pace attack. Another Indian fast bowler, Prasidh Krishna, also joined GT on a Rs 9.5-crore deal.
