World champion Neeraj Chopra is aiming for his first major victory of the season as he returns to the Paris Diamond League 2025 to compete in the men's javelin throw event.
The Paris event is the eighth meeting of the 15 in the DL 2025 season. It will culminate with a two-day final in Zurich in August.
The highlight of the event is the clash between Chopra and Germany’s Julian Weber. In the previous Diamond League event in Doha, Chopra had crossed the 90 m milestone for the first time in his career with a throw of 90.23 m. This could have won the Indian thrower the event, but Weber outdid him.
Weber also breached the 90 m mark for the first time in his career with a 91.06 m. This ensured Weber the victory and the two-time Olympic medallist had to settle for a second-place finish.
Further, Weber beat Chopra again at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland. While Weber crossed 85 m thrice, Chopra could muster a best of 84.14 m.
It is Chopra's first Paris Diamond League appearance since 2017 when he was a junior world champion. Last year, Weber won the event, with Anderson Peters of Grenada finishing second.
Apart from Chopra and Weber, other notable participants at this year’s event include Anderson Peters, Keshorn Walcott, Julius Yego, Luiz Mauricio da Silva, Andrian Mardare and Remi Rougetet. A notable absence is Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem.
