Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in his first Delhi visit since becoming Maharashtra Chief Minister. He held talks with the BJP leadership on the distribution of ministerial berths among the three allies of Mahayuti.
"In last 10 years, with your support Maharashtra is Number 1 in almost every sector and now aims to take this journey of VIKAS to the next level under your leadership and guidance," Fadnavis said in a post on social media platform X after meeting Modi.
The CM also met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
The formula of ministerial berth distribution within the Maharashtra government has been finalised, Fadnavis told reporters.
"As far as making ministers from the BJP quota is concerned, we will take a decision on it. Similarly, NCP and Shiv Sena will decide the names of their ministers at their level. The formula for cabinet expansion is already decided. You will get to know about it soon," he said.
The BJP is likely to get around 20 ministerships, the Shiv Sena 12, and the NCP 10, NDTV reported, quoting sources. Maharashtra can have a total of 43 ministers, including the Chief Minister.
The formula seems to have been finalised after evaluating the performance of each ally in the recent Assembly elections, where Mahayuti won a landslide victory. The BJP secured 132 seats, the Sena won 57, and the NCP earned 41 seats.
Fadnavis took oath in Mumbai last week, alongside Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar as deputy chief ministers. The mega event was attended by senior NDA leaders across India.
