Maharashtra Cabinet Expansion: Pankaja Munde, Madhuri Misal, Jaykumar Rawal Among 39 Ministers Sworn In

A total of 33 ministers and six ministers of state were sworn in by Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan in Nagpur.

New ministers of the Maharashtra cabinet took oath of office during a ceremony at Raj Bhavan in Nagpur on Sunday. Governor CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deptuy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar in attendance.

In the swearing in ceremony today, 33 ministers and six ministers of state took oath. The Mahayuti alliance has afreed on giving 20 seats to BJP, 12 seats to Shiv Sena (Ekanth Shinde faction), and 10 to NCP (Ajit Pawar faction). The Maharashtra cabinet can have 43 ministers.

State BJP chief Chandrasekhar Bawankule was the first minister to take oath.

Portfolios will be allotted among the new Maharashtra cabinet later. Notably, winter session of the Maharashtra state assembly will be held at Vidhan Bhavan in Nagpur on Dec. 16, Monday.

The Mahayuti alliance had swept the Nov. 20 Maharashtra state elections, bagging 230 seats of 288. Fadnavis, and his deputies Shinde and Pawar had taken oath on Dec. 5 after at a grand rally in Mumbai that was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP bigwigs and stalwarts from various walks of life.

Earlier today, Fadnavis arrived in Nagpur — his constituency — to a roaring welcome from party workers and people. He took out a mega rally from the Nagpur airport to his residence in Dharampeth.

Talking to reporters at Nagpur airport, Fadnavis said, "It is a joyous moment that after becoming the chief minister, I have come to my janmabhoomi and karmabhoomi (birthplace and workplace). Nagpur is my family, and it is welcome by my family."
