The Government of Tamil Nadu released its list of public holidays for 2025. There will be a total of 23 public holidays observed in the state including the ones falling on Saturdays and Sundays, as per the official circular. The public holidays will apply to all the offices of the state government and the commercial banks as well as undertakings, corporations, and boards.
"The Government of Tamil Nadu pass the following orders in regard to the observance of Holidays in the State of Tamil Nadu for the year 2025,” read the order.
Tamil Nadu Holidays 2025
There will be a total of five holidays in January 2025. These include New Year's Day (Jan. 1), Pongal (Jan. 14), Thiruvalluvar Day (Jan. 15), Uzhavar Thirunal (Jan. 16) and Republic Day (Jan. 26).
This will be followed by the Thai Poosam on Feb. 11 and two holidays in March – Telugu New Year’s Day (March 30) and Idu’l Fitr (March 31).
In April, there are scheduled public holidays due to the annual closing of accounts for commercial banks and cooperative banks (April 1), Mahaveer Jayanthi (April 10), Tamil New Year’s Day/Dr BR Ambedkar’s birth anniversary (April 14) and Good Friday (April 18).
May Day (May 1), which is observed globally as Labour Day, will also be a holiday in the state of Tamil Nadu.
After Bakrid (Idul Azha) on June 7 and Muharram on July 6, there will be three holidays in August 2025 – Independence Day (Aug. 15), Krishna Jayanthi (Aug. 16) and Vinayakar Chathurthi (Aug. 27).t
State government offices, schools and other institutions will remain closed on Milad-un-Nabi (Sept. 5), Ayutha Pooja (Oct. 1), Vijaya Dasami/Gandhi Jayanti (Oct. 2), Diwali (Oct. 20) and Christmas (Dec. 25).
