Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit China on Aug. 31 for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit, marking his first visit since 2019, reported NDTV.
There is a possibility that Modi will hold an informal meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the conference.
This will be the prime minister's first visit to China after the clashes between the two countries in Galwan. Modi will be attending the SCO Summit in Tianjin between Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.
According to the NDTV report, issues such as regional security, terrorism and trade will be discussed with SCO member states. India is seeking to restore stability and dialogue in India-China relations.
Modi will likely hold a meeting with Putin and Xi Jinping during the conference. Earlier, Modi and Xi Jinping met at the Brics summit in Kazan in October 2024. It was after this meeting that work towards easing border tensions between the two countries picked up pace.
Before his visit to China, Modi will be visiting Japan for a bilateral meet on Aug. 30.
He will attend the India-Japan annual summit with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The meeting with the Japanese counterpart will focus on deepening the strategic, economic and technological partnership between the two countries.
